Football Update: Lionel Messi Got Injured With a "Fierce Knock" After Inspiring His Team Against Napoli in 3-1 Victory

According to the reports after the championship match between Barcelona and Napoli that ended in favour of Barca. Messi had been reported to have picked up an injury during the match. Barca star man scored a brilliant goal amid the 3-1 Champions League win over the Napoli but unfortunately, he picks up an injury after being kicked in the box by Koulibaly.

Quique Setien, the Barcelona manager revealed this information that; Lionel Messi had suffered a "fierce knock" during the victory over Napoli, but hopeful that the superstar will bounce back and fit for the next match.

During the match, Messi showcase another world-class performance in the Champions League as the Barcelona won 3-1 and 4-2 in aggregate to move on to quarter-final match with Bayern Munich.

Messi goal came after the first goal from Clement Lengleti’s header from the corner kick and also had a second goal rule out by VAR for handball.

Messi also got a penalty towards the end of first-half by catching up against Kalidou Koulibaly in the possession and committing him to a foul in the area as the defender swung his foot to clear the ball from box area.

Though Messi wasn’t able to take on the penalty because he needs medical attention on the pitch after Koulibaly's kick to his left leg, the spot-kick was left to Luis Suarez who went on to convert the spot-kick to a goal.

Messi was able to return to the pitch after receiving treatment to play the full 90 minutes at Camp Nou, though his fitness wasn’t certain at that moment because it is seen to have been suffered injury from that foul kick.

Meanwhile, there’s good news because Setien has provided a positive update on his fitness. According to him;

"Lionel took quite a fierce knock in that challenge from Koulibaly," Setien said.

"But I don’t think it’ll become a big problem for him."

As we all know, Messi's fitness is fundamental to Barcelona's hopes of reaching the Champions League semi-finals as they face a big test against Bayern Munich on Friday in Lisbon.

According to Setien, the game against the Bundesliga champions will be a huge challenge but he was pleased with his side's performance against Napoli.

Setien added: "The game against Bayern will be complicated, but we are also a great team. The team has been good and we deserved the victory.

"We have overcome the opening minutes and in the second half, Napoli didn’t create much danger.

"The truth is that Napoli is one of the best Italian teams. We knew how to react to their start and then we had a good first half. They have had more prominence during the second half."
