Football Update: Neymar to Pay €6.7m Instead as Judge Rules in Barcelona Favour Over Signing-on Bonus Claim

Brazilian international football player had claimed that his former football club Barcelona owe him €43.6m as signing-on bonuses, however, his claim had turned against him to repay €6.7m to Barcelona club side.

According to the jurisdictions report, Neymar has been ordered to repay €6.7 million (£6.1m/$7.5m) to his former club Barcelona after a judge ruled against him regarding a bonus dispute between him and the club.

Meanwhile, Barcelona club has released a statement on their website stating that ‘’they welcome the judgment handed down today by the Social Court 15 of Barcelona, in connection with lawsuits between the club and the player Neymar Junior in claiming compensation for the bonus signed in his last contract renewal”

"The judgment dismisses the player's claim in its entirety, which demanded the payment of €43.6m, and estimates a large part of the claim filed by FC Barcelona, ​​under which the player must return the club €6.7m."

Though, Neymar still the chance to appeal this decision.

If you could recall, Neymar left Barcelona in 2017 in an attempt to move out from the shadow of Lionel Messi and increase his chances of winning the Ballon d'Or.

After Neymar a successful move to the French club. The current PSG playmaker, filed the lawsuit in August 2017 after Barcelona refused to pay the bonus included in his contract renewal signed in 2016.

Though this case was formerly taken to FIFA, who closed their investigation with no action in February 2018, and currently, judgement has been ruled in favour of Barcelona club.

Presently, Barcelona is pleased that the clause relating to the payment was rendered null and void when Neymar left the club to PSG, while Neymar Sr., the footballer father,  has accused Barcelona of "blackmail", and the player agent even called for the club to be ban from the Champions League competition for not paying his bonus.

Neymar has won every league 1 trophy in France ever since the Brazilian started playing for the French club side.  Though the club has yet to find any success in the Champions League, at the same time, Neymar has been regularly linked with a move away from PSG back to his former club Barcelona.
