Football Update: United Failed ‘Individually and Collectively’, Says Ralf Rangnick as He Suffered 0-1 First Defeat Against Wolves

Ralf Rangnick react viciously at the Manchester United team for their collective and individual failure in their 1-0 home defeat against Wolves on Monday, Rangnick who is currently the new manager has admitted that a top-four finish cannot be guaranteed with the present situation with the team.

This would be Rangnick first defeat in six matches while in charge of the Manchester United team, the defeat came in the 82nd minute in the game when Joao Moutinho strike to earn the Wolves their first win at Old Trafford since 1980 and moving wolves up to eighth place in the table.

According to Rangnick comment after the defeat he said:

“We didn’t play well at all individually or collectively. Today we showed similar problems the team had three or four weeks ago before I arrived. It is not an easy job to develop a DNA with and without the ball.”

The reporter went on to ask Rangnick if the top four finish can still be secure.  Rangnick said:

“I cannot make any guarantees,” he said. “Look at today’s performance: if I say we are 100% convinced we will finish in the top four I don’t know if people will believe that. It is about taking the next steps and getting better. I knew this could be hard.

“I knew it would be difficult – that’s the reason why they brought me. I knew it wouldn’t be easy to find a balance between offensively and defensively. We didn’t press at all. We tried but we were not able to get into those pressing situations.”

"The game showed we still have a lot of work to do. We had too many unforced errors. I don't want to speak about the individual performances of players. It's an issue for the whole team. It doesn't make sense," he added.

Meanwhile, Shaw, Manchester United defender has questioned the relationship within the team, below are his statements;

“I didn’t think we were all there together. You look at the players we have, we have unbelievable quality but sometimes quality is not enough.

“They were miles better in the first half. We let them take control of the game, we weren’t aggressive, we needed to bring more intensity. Maybe we lacked that today. We need to bring intensity and more motivation.

“Inside the dressing room we know what we want but out on the pitch we need to give 100%. To win these types of games we all need to be 100% committed. It is tough and disappointing.”

Also during the match, Rangnick got booed when he substituted Mason Greenwood in the second half. According to Rangnick, the fans reaction has shown how much they like Mason as a homegrown player meanwhile, his effort and performance was not outstanding in the match. The manager was contemplating on the player to remove between Mason and Edi Cavani but later decided to keep Edi Cavani because he has been a better player on the pitch tonight.

Wolves created many chances in the first half of the game but it was not until eight minutes before the end of the match that they made their superiority count when Moutinho pounced on a headed clearance from Phil Jones and fired a low shot past David De Gea.

Moutinho said; "Winning here at Old Trafford against a big team is amazing for us,".

"We came here to play football, play with the ball, that's what we do. We created a lot of shots in the first half. We controlled everything. We only let them create one opportunity," he added.
