PSG was looking incoherent in their Ligue 1 match with Rennes last night, this will surely put more pressure on the speculation surrounding Pochettino’s continuing at the club in future.
At
three minutes left to the end of the match, Rennes was becoming the only second
team to take points off PSG in their own home this season but got caught and
punished as they were pushed forward by a super team-up between two of the
world’s premier footballers.
It
was Kylian Mbappe who came up to rescue the team after a lacklustre display by
Pochettino's side as he finally makes the breakthrough towards the end of
stoppage time to send the PSG who was already the leader in league 1 table to
16 points clear. The match ended 1-0 in favour of the home team on Friday
night.
In
the 1st half of the match, a deflected shot from Mbappe hit the goal post.
During
2nd half of the match, Mbappe found the net midway after being linked with
Messi pass but that effort was ruled offside by VAR.
The
breakthrough came when PSG launched a counterattack in injury-time, the ball
eventually landed to Messi – and you could certainly rely upon the seven-time
Ballon d’Or winner to provide a creative spark, setting up Mbappe, who opened
up his body to casually convert, having gone closest earlier to securing
victory for his side.

The
former Barcelona superstar might have struggled for goals in France’s
top-flight this season, but he certainly hasn’t underperformed in the assists
department as he recorded his eight assists of the campaign against Rennes.
PSG
will be back in action during the Champions League next week when they host
Real Madrid in the Round of 16 at home in France.
Rennes
remained in fifth place in the Ligue 1 table after the disappointing outing.
